Sarah Bourne

Hi, my name is Sarah, my pronouns are she/her and I am the founder of Exploration Dance!

I am a dance artist with a physical disability.
I have a certification in Advanced Arts and Entertainment Management from Capilano University and I am a co-founder of the All Bodies Dance Project in Vancouver. When I relocated to the Okanagan I wanted to continue living my passion, so I started a new dance project of inclusive dance classes for people of all abilities. The goal?  To help everyone explore movement as a means of creativity and artistic development.

Over the years I have attended several workshops and including Candoco Dance Company Teacher Training (UK) and Stopgap Dance Company Responsive Teaching Practice & Developing Diverse Dance Talent workshop (UK), AXIS Dance Company Summer Intensive and Physically Integrated Teacher Training (California) Canadian Inclusive Dance Teacher Training (AB) DanceAbility Day with Alito Alessi (Oregon), and dance classes with Naomi Brand (BC).

In my offstage life, I work as a navigator for the Individualized Funding Resource Centre. I am client services coordinator and ambassador for Pacific Assistance Dogs Society, Fur mom to my PADS dog Rico and wife to my amazing and supportive husband Jeff Bourne. I am so excited to get to know all of you during this upcoming winter season!

Lucy Hazelwood

Co Facilitator

Lucy Hazelwood has been dancing since the age of 4 and, at 18, was accepted  with a full scholarship to Bird College conservatoire for dance and musical theatre, London England. There she studied all aspects of Dance and Performing Arts, including theory, and gained a 2:1 BA Hons Degree in Dance & Theatre Performance, validated by  the University of Greenwich. After graduating Lucy went on to work with Jean Ann Ryan Productions, amongst many companies, as Dance Captain in and around the United States.

Now in beautiful Kelowna, Lucy has created Luki Studios, Luki Dance Productions, On Pointe Dance Co, operates Army of Sass Kelowna and co-directs AOS Vernon; all with the viewpoint of establishing a thriving dance community in the Okanagan and providing dance performance opportunities to those who may not otherwise get them. Lucy also continues to teach, choreograph and direct throughout North America and she still performs with her professional performance element of Luki Dance Productions, performing at various events throughout B.C. and Alberta. You can also find Lucy as a member of faculty teaching Dance & Drama at Studio9 Independent School for the Arts. Lucy has always had a passion for integrative dance as she truly believes dance is for every body. She is thrilled to be part of the inaugural team of Exploration Dance and can't wait to see this company [community] grow.
